Adoption News Round-up
Here’s a look at some of the interesting things happening around the web in adoption this week:
A new magazine is hoping to spark honest discussion about race and adoption. Called Gazillion Voices, they want to “shape communication about adoption.” The publication believes that race is often glossed over in the adoption discussion, and that many times, children adopted into families of another race are actually the ones creating the diversity that now exists in their town or school. But how is that being discussed?
An incredible video essay created by a teenager who gained two siblings when her biological parents adopted. She shares how adoption changed her life.
There have been all sorts of articles written about what not to say to a birth mother, but here’s a beautiful article about the six things you SHOULD say to birth mothers. A must-read for any adoptive family preparing to speak to a birth mother for the first time.
The Huffington Post breaks down just exactly how much it costs to raise a child. Do you think is accurate?
A great article from Adoptive Families about how to explain adoption to first-graders. One adoptive mother shares how she did it. Super helpful, and a fantastic read!
