What To Expect When You’re Expecting’s Surprise Adoption Theme

Were you planning on seeing “What To Expect When You’re Expecting?” It seemed like just another parenting comedy, but we’ve started reading articles about Jennifer Lopez’s adoption story line in the film and we’re a bit more interested.

In the film Lopez’s character has fertility issues, and when adoption becomes a part of their reality, it seemingly affectd Lopez’s own reality for future children as well. “Before this movie, it wasn’t something that had occurred to me,” she told Access Hollywood. “But after this movie, yes, I could see myself definitely doing it and being open to it for sure. You know what I mean? Whereas, before I never thought about it really.”

This is one of the great phenomenons about adoption. Often there is a lack of awareness about how rewarding and special the adoption process truly is. Naturally, people are so focused on trying to have their own children, that they don’t think as openly about adoption — once the idea of adoption comes into their lives, it can be a beautiful awakening to the options that exist for parenting and creating a family.
“It was funny, the adoption thing,” she recalled. “When I held the baby for the first time – our baby in the movie, and they were twins, they were two little twin Ethiopian boys, who, their parents went through a similar thing, and actually have adopted before, and so we got to talk to them a lot about it too.”

“But when you hold that baby, you can really see how easy it is to just love another child that is not yours. Really, such a simple thing.”
