Using Kickstarter to Find A Family

Dan Matthews is a Korean adoptee who started a Kickstarter compaign to help him get to Korea to film a documentary about finding and meeting his birth family. He was adopted at 8 months old and grew up in southern California. After becoming curious about his birth parents, he contacted his adoption agency, who wrote him back revealing this information:

Dear Dan Matthews. I’m writing to share the information of your birth family. As you may be aware your birth parents were married and are still married. they have one son and a daughter. You might also find that you brother Ji Si Young is actually your twin brother.

According his Kickstarter, “aka Dan” is a documentary project chronicling Dan Matthews’ journey to Korea in summer 2013, centering around his struggles with identity and family during the IKAA (International Korean Adoptee Association) 2013 summit, his first live concert performance in Korea, and his reunion with his Korean birth family.”

Donations to Dan’s Kickstarter will help to fund a very minimal production crew that will allow him to make this documentary, and there are all sorts of benefits to donating – everything from t-shirts and exclusive downloads of the film, to an executive producer credit. It’s incredible to see a young man to focused on and dedicated to finding his family, and to see the creative process that’s developing because of it. Please share this with everyone you know, and together, hopefully we can help Dan meet his fundraising goal and accomplish his dream!
