Teaching Our Children to Achieve Their Dreams

Being a parent is about more than just the here and now. It exceeds what to eat for breakfast, making sure homework is done or driving your kids to an after-school rehearsal or practice. The mother of our niece’s boyfriend tells her son that it was her job to teach him how to fly. That means that all of the small things we teach our children throughout their lives must add up to the big thing that we inevitably want for them: which is for them to be successful, happy and fulfilling everything they want out of life.

Just weeks before he died, Carnegie Mellon professor Randy Pausch gave an incredible lecture to his students, entitled “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams,” where he shares some beautiful advice about how to go for and achieve dreams both personally and career-wise. There’s some pretty inspiring stuff here, and it’s a true reminder of the encouragement and support we need to be feeding to our children, each and every day.
